A choice to add value

As we review 2016 Community operations, some confessions arise: Knowing is not enough, we must do. Sometimes good things fall apart, so better things can fall together.  All in all the vision to add value to marginalised families has kept us learning whatever we can to go further.

David
: Coping with housing disputes and unemployment

David 33, of Kampong Muhibbah is disenfranchised from a transport company over new policies. His wife Satanam suffers spinal injury and cares for 2 pre-teen daughters and month old baby Jason. Though Shelter hired him temporarily, he needs a long-term job as chauffer or transport ranger.

As Community reach out with food parcels to 34 homes monthly, it faces a web of poverty, malnourished children and disintegrated families. The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.

Kalai Selvi, mother of 4 children works as a restaurant waitress and is one who goes the distance. Even though her husband Sivaraman needs a heart transplant, he works as a promoter for a cable tv company. Each month we visit their low-cost flats in Sentul, their story is about steadfastness and tenacity.

 Sponsor Change

Community believes that whatever may come your way you can always give it meaning and transform it into something of value. Sugan and Rueben (pic ) are children who need your mutual support. I cannot say whether things will get better if they change; what I can say is they must change if they are to get better.

Pictured below is Kavita Kerishnan and children in Tmn Permai. She fell at work and is recuperating. That means fewer funds for rental, utilities and children’s schooling. It takes more than good intentions to make real change. Do you wish to contribute in some way to make things better and to add value?
